The hockey communities of St. Catharines and the Niagara Region are mourning the tragic loss of Dawson Abrahams, a talented young athlete, dedicated student, and beloved teammate who passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the age of 21 following a fatal hockey-related incident.
Dawson’s sudden passing has left his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and classmates devastated. A graduate of Eden High School and a first-year student at Redeemer University, Dawson was pursuing his education while continuing to follow the sport he loved.
Throughout his hockey career, Dawson earned recognition for his dedication, work ethic, and leadership. He played in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Pelham Panthers, where he developed as a player and gained the respect of teammates and opponents alike. From 2019 through 2023, he was also part of RU Hockey, building a reputation as a dependable and committed member of the team.
During the 2025–2026 season with the Redeemer Royals, Dawson delivered an outstanding performance, recording 11 goals and 31 points in 21 games. His achievements earned him the Rookie of the Year honor, recognizing both his skill on the ice and his commitment to the program.
However, those who knew Dawson say his greatest qualities extended far beyond hockey. Teammates and friends remember him as humble, encouraging, hardworking, and someone who brought positivity wherever he went. His ability to support others and create strong connections made him a valued presence in every team and community he was part of.
